In our modern culture and sophisticated way of life, sometimes our courtesy sense is perceived to be just formality.
If you go and say someone ‘thank you’, chances are high they will reply “No need for formalities”. Honestly speaking, it is a funny yet embarrassing scenario a lot many people have encountered
Someone coming up with such a reply to my thanking them doesn’t upset me much as I have got (like many others) several happy reasons in life to focus on. For a fraction of a second, however, it occurs to my mind what a dreadful extent of deprivation they are dragging themselves to by considering the expression of ‘thank you’ as an unnecessary formality!
Everybody has the right to live their life in their own way and entertain any sort of thoughts and opinions they have. But, here, I will explain to you, my reader friends, why saying ‘thank you’ can be one of the best practices you develop for more happiness in your life.
THANK YOU Isn’t A Mere Formality
During our childhood, our parents and teachers taught us to express gratitude by pronouncing ‘thank you’ sincerely as a sign of courtesy. Let’s be thankful to them for the great lesson. Acknowledging and Appreciating other’s service, support and anything they do to help us is a virtue to cherish. But, I would reveal to you here that it carries more and grants us more than this.
Gratitude Opens Doors to Glory
When we acknowledge other people’s services, contributions, support and gifts that in some way ease and enhance our tasks or situations, we are doing ourselves more favour than anything else in this world.
When the person gets to hear the appreciation and acknowledgement that you sincerely deliver to them ( in any form), a kind of happy feeling and satisfaction develops in their mind. They might not always express with a big smile on their face or by saying welcome very warmly, but they do feel good about it.
The rise of this serene sensation of happiness inside them works like a blessing for you. It opens your door to more possibilities, opportunities and happiness than your brain, at this moment, can anticipate.
It is a fact and not some idealistic suggestion that I am offering you here. For ages, great personalities and successful and notable people all over the world have been practising gratitude that helped them attain more glory in life.
Be Thankful for the Things You Have
Being thankful to other people for their help, support, service and company is still in practice by many. What a lot many people forget to remember is that it is equally important to be thankful for the things they have in their lives.
From a strong shelter over your head to even the slippers that you wear to walk around from one room to another has some contribution in making your life a happy ongoing journey, isn’t it?
Be thankful also for your materialistic possessions, opportunities you had and have, tangible and intangible assets you own, your experiences so far, company of your loved ones etc. Be thankful even for the few challenges you encounter in your life that help you go on and achieve far greater things in life.
Do We Need to be Thankful for Everything?
Yes, we should be. A few of you must be wondering “Why to be thankful for every goddamn thing in my life”.
It is because if you are not thankful for them now, you can never be happy with anything you ever receive or achieve anytime. If you do not realise the importance of the things that are easing and enhancing your life at present, how do you expect to ever feel happiness even if you receive greater gifts in life later on?
You don’t appreciate your achievements so far and the belongings that your effort has brought you now. Don’t you realise you are grooming yourself to be grumpy regardless of your gains?
No matter what you receive ever in your life you will never get the taste of happiness. It is as simple as it is.
Happiness is an Inside Job
It is your responsibility to acquaint yourself with the real reasons that your life already has given you at this very moment.
Your present house is sheltering you against the harsh elements of the outside world and this is your comfort space. Still, you forcefully upset your mind constantly thinking that you will be happy only when you have a bigger and more beautiful house.
To dream about better things and putting on effort to get them, in reality, is a good thing. This is what everybody should do. But what kind of childish behaviour is this to constantly condition yourself to be unhappy till you get it? You know what, it will only prolong the wait before you get to shift to your dream house. A happy mind is more productive. Always remember it.
When you start appreciating your present position and the things that you already have in your life and be thankful for them, you start unlocking the treasure of happiness. You start realising you already have a good reason to feel happiness right now.
Tangible and intangible possessions you do not appreciate and neglect get taken away in time. So, start developing a thankful attitude and approach towards dealing with both people and the things you have in your life.
It will infuse you with happiness and positivity that will boost your productivity and help you gain greater things in life.

To say thank you to someone directly or for an opportunity or a thing in our mind doesn’t cost us anything. On the contrary, it keeps us grounded, humble and in fine tune with our present. It prepares us to be a better receiver of greater things and happiness in life.
Let us all be sincerely thankful for all the good things that have already happened in our lives and the things we are currently enjoying. Also with the little challenges that help us be a better version of ourselves in our life journey.
