India lost its freedom to the British after losing the Battle of Plassey in 1757.
The First War of Independence (often described as Sepoy Mutiny) was fought in 1857 but, due to the lack of proper planning and organization, it failed in its mission.
On 15th August 1947, India witnessed a morning free from the shackles of slavery. Every Indian woke up as a Free and proud citizen of India. Sadly, the nation got divided and Pakistan came into existence comprising East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and West Punjab. Several Indians then had to accept the latter as their new nation. The price was brutal.
India is marching ahead now in full-throttle, leaving behind its slavery and humiliation baggage, to record astounding achievements in all domains of human civilization. May the Universe bless its journey with more positive events!
