Our eyes are important as they allow us to see and realise what beauty, in any form or size, ever looks like.
When it comes to facial beauty our eyes play a crucial part in accentuating anyone’s overall appearance.
Sadly, most of us remain concerned about beautifying our eyes using eye makeup items only. Eye makeup is to highlight the eyes in our preferred style or as per what is trending. It stays limited to this only or, maybe, beyond which I ( being someone who is not very enthusiastic about makeup) don’t know much about. The concept of taking care of our eyes for their health and natural beauty goes beyond the mere use of any market-available eye makeup products.
In this blog, I want to share with my beautiful readers how you can take care of your eyes which I also follow in my life.
The information shared here will help you to improve and preserve both the health and the beauty of your eyes. These are just two minimal methods, which anyone can follow.
So what are we waiting for? Let’s focus our eye lens on how to keep the eyes beautiful-
1) Morning Ritual
Triphala Water for Cleaning the Eyes
Triphala is a ‘maha aushadhi’ as per Ayurveda. And, it is true in every possible sense.
Haritaki (Black or Brown myrobalan), Amla or Amlaki (Indian Gooseberry) and Bahera (Bastard myrobalan) are mixed and ground to a powder form.
Those who don’t know how to make Triphala powder at home, let me briefly BRIEF you on it here.
How to Make Triphala Powder (or Mixture) at Home?
Take 100 gm of dried Amla and 50 gm of Bahera and Haritaki each. Take out the harder outer shell or coating of Haritaki and Bahera. Spoiler alert-the skin of Haritaki and Bahera is hard so a little effort is needed. Use Mortar and Pestle ( Imam Dasta) or grind it (just one quick whirl will do) but ensure the seeds are not taken in any way. We need the hard outer skin and not the woody seed or part inside.
Now, take the three ingredients (Amla, and the skin of Bahera and Haritaki) and grind them to a powder consistency or grind them into their mini-broken parts. Making a fine powder is not mandatory.
Your Triphala powder is ready.
How to Make the Triphala Water?
Take a teaspoon of the mixture and soak it overnight in a glass of water to clean your eyes the next morning.
You can use the soaked triphala residue yet for another day. No need to throw away the residues after a single use only. Take a teaspoon of fresh and dry Triphala mixture from the container for the 3rd day of usage.
Also, you can have a teaspoon of Triphala powder or mixture and gulp it down with normal drinking water post-dinner.
Benefits
- It promotes eyesight.
- It disinfects the eyes.
- It adds nutrition to the eye cells and muscles.
- It adds health to the eyelashes and eyebrows (yes, dear. It does!).
- It is found effective in improving Macular Degeneration disorder.
- It can heal Senile Cataract.
Several Ayurvedic eye dropper has Triphala as one of its major ingredients. Even you get Triphala eye wash and Triphala eye dropper. I recommend doing a little hard work to get the best Triphala eyewash solution at your home.
Points to Remember –
- Strain it properly
Strain the triphala-soaked water properly. Ensure no hard tiny particles from the teaspoon of the mixture remain in the water you collect for washing the eyes. Tiny residues left unfiltered might irritate the eyes. Keep them aside and pour them again in the same glass for the next day. 2- day use is possible. - Take time while washing your eyes.
Fold your palm imitating the shape of a cup to hold the water and wash your eyes slowly with it. Keep your eyes dipped slightly in the water you are holding in your palm. A few seconds at least for each eye.
Don’t just splash the Triphala-soaked water hurriedly. Let your eyes soak in it and reap the benefits better.
- Use a glass to soak it in
Don’t use any metal container to keep the Triphala mixture and, also, soak the product in water. Glass is the best. Ceramic containers would also do fine. You can keep the Triphala powder or the mixture in a plastic bottle too. But, glass and ceramics are the only ones I would recommend for soaking the Triphala in water. - Mild Tingling Sensation is OK
When you will be washing your eyes with the water, your eyes will have a funny sensation. It’s ok. Remember, the water you use to clean your eyes after soaking Triphala in it for a night becomes ayurvedic medicinal water. It starts working on fighting the germs and repairing the damage in coming into contact with your eyes instantly, so the tingling sensation. It is working. Be happy. If the irritation or the funny sensation does feel a little more intense than funny, discontinue and consult a doctor. But, the likelihood of such an event is 2%.
Triphala water is not toxic. It detoxifies your eyes. Period.
- The Water is Coloured
Yes, the colour of the water may range anywhere from muddy to deep reddish brown. Don’t panic or doubt. As I mentioned, it becomes medicinal water extracting all the essentials of dried Amla, Haritaki and Bahera.
After washing your eyes with the water make sure to clean your wash basin with plain water as well. No need to scrub. Just pour or jet spray lightly the areas on your wash basin using plain water. It is because Triphala water leaves marks on wash basin ceramics and metals. If you don’t wash the basin with water, you will later (less than an hour) see greenish or bluish marks on your wash basin or sinks.
Your early morning eye ritual is done.
I would write a blog on a few eye exercises you can do to further benefit your eyes under the Health section within a few days.
2) Bedtime Eye Beauty Ritual
Gentle Massage
Wash your face as you would do normally. Now, dip the fleshy pulpy top part of your ring fingers (use both your hands) in Almond or Castor oil. Either of these two would do fine.
Ensure that the oils are pure. How would you do that? Buy a reliable branded Cold Pressed Virgin Almond or Castor oil. It will be enough to stay assured of their purity to a large extent.
Now, coming to the ritual point, very gently swab across as the fleshy part of your ring finger under your lower eyelid (the hollowed eye socket area just before your cheekbones) from the side of your nose towards the end of your eyes. Upward and outward. Gently do it. Apply a little pressure but, make the glide smoothly. Don’t stretch the delicate skin much.
I count numbers when I do the massage. At the count of 10 or 15, I stop. You can do it for 10-15 seconds too or a little longer. 40 seconds max. No need to stretch it to minutes.
Swab the oil-laden fingers over the hooded part of your upper eyelids and along the fleshy walls of your lower eyelids too.
Benefits
- Moisturises the skin around the eyes
- Helps in keeping the skin in the region tight
- Nourishes the eye and the skin around
- Supports reducing the puffiness
