Commemorating the Death Anniversary of Martyr Udham Singh

Udham Singh Kamboj is an important Indian revolutionary personality who avenged the massacre of the infamous Jallianwala Bagh Tragedy.

Michael O’Dwyer was shot by Udham Singh inside Caxton Hall, Westminister, London on 13 March 1940. O’Dwyer was Punjab’s lieutenant governor, who had ordered the Jallianwala Bagh shooting.

He was a 20-year-old lad and was volunteering as a waterboy (giving water to the thirsty participants in that non-violent gathering) there on the day of Baisakhi when it had happened. He had an injury in his hand and escaped death narrowly, unlike hundreds of other unfortunate innocents.

After killing O’Dwyer, he waited for cops to arrest him and went on a hunger strike for 42 days while in custody. He was hanged and buried in the Pentonville Prison ground in the UK.

Udham Singh called himself Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, representing the 3 major religions of then India-Hinduism, Islam & Sikhism.

He was influenced by Bhagat Singh and was associated with the Ghadar Party

He was born on 26th December 1899 in Punjab.
